However, after that, you would need to switch over. The time when Drupal 6 had touched its EOL i.e., end-of-life, then there was this LTS or Long-Term-Support program that made it possible for firms to stay on Drupal 6 past its EOL. Now, there are some plans to provide such a Long-Term-Support program for Drupal 7, but not for Drupal 8 as the up-gradation from Drupal 8 to 9 is much simpler. So, if any firm does not make this move, then it will be on their own to deal with any of the security updates as well as other maintenance issues & bug fixes for their Drupal 8 code.
